About

XdHacks Mini SF was a virtual hackathon for students from all levels. Whether you were an experienced programmer or had never coded anything in your life before, there was something for everyone at this hackathon! If you were not interested in coding anything yet, you could have just attend to learn about how to plan an idea or a project. Others would get the chance to code for solutions solving the world's problems. Prizes were awarded to the highest rankng teams, and the event was filled with workshops, guest speakers, mentors, and more to assist you with your projects.

Tracks

01

Ideation Hack

XD Hacks Mini SF strives to build a hackathon for everyone. Our Ideation Hack allows the complexity of projects to be significantly lower, opening the doors to elementary/middle schoolers, and students without any coding experience. An Ideation Hack is where you construct a business idea and build a pitch deck, website, or some type of prototype. Your hack will be judged from the perspective of a Venture Capitalist.

02

Traditional Hack

A Traditional Hack is your typical hackathon project. Over the course of 24 hours, you and your team will code an innovative project that best fits the theme of the hackathon.

03

Continuation Hack

Continuation Hacks are Hackathon projects that are being carried over from other hackathons. They will be judged based on the improvements that are made since the previous submission. We have noticed that students often abandon their projects after competing in hackathons. By opening a division for students to continue their projects we hope that they will be able to build more complex and thorough projects.

FAQs

What is a hackathon?

A Hackathon is a combination of the words "hack" and "marathon". At XdHacks Mini, we believe the word "hack" means to create. It’s an event where people come together and use technology to transform ideas into reality. Additionally, students can create projects, attend workshops, meet new people, improve their programming, and have lots of fun!

How does a virtual Hackathon work?

XdHacks-COVID takes place exclusively online. Registration will be held on HackHub exclusively and discord will be the communication platform during the Hackathon where webinars and Q &A sessions will be hosted. Technical instructions will be sent to you via email before the Hackathon begins.

What kind of product am I expected to create?

This is not a university level event. Although our event encourages students to develop their product as much as they can, we do not expect a product ready to be put on the market. Prototyping is a huge part of product creation and, at XdHacks, we are celebrating the creativity and innovative ideas highschool students have to approach a real-world issue. Your pitch should include extensive planning and preparation and hopefully presentable models to showcase your inventive products!

What activities are planned?

There will be webinars, online side games and plenty of other fun activities to keep you busy!

Are there participation requirements?

The only participation requirements are that you are a current middle-school or high-school student with internet access. No coding experience is required!

Are there Prizes?

Yes. We can't tell you everything, but for outstanding products there will prizes to reward unique and innovative ideas.

Is there a maximum team size?

Yes, the maximum team size is 3 people for all tracks except continuation hack which can allow up to 4 people.

What if I don’t have a team?

We will have some online team building sessions, so feel free to register alone!
